Any Local Government Chairman who fails to support efforts towards polio prevention and routine immunization in Ondo State , Nigeria, will henceforth be sanctioned.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko stated this in Akure, the State capital, at the inaugural meeting of the State's task force on polio eradication and routine immunization.
He said Local councils had been adequately empowered to support the programme.
Governor Mimiko, however, announced a reward of ten million naira for any Local government that performs beyond expectation in preventing polio in the State.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju said that Ondo State had been polio free for the past four years, due to commitment of government and other stakeholders.
